PREDICT™ Technology

eCVD-D in the US

The PREDICT™ Electronic Clinical Decision Support (eCDS) system represents a significant technological advance by using a scenario-based knowledge representation. Innovated by Enigma, this robust methodology models decision making by applying pattern-matching techniques to patient scenarios or states, rather than using algorithms. Its advantages are speed, flexibility and simplified content management.

PREDICT™ enables the delivery of evidence-based information to support clinical decision making at point of care, via the customers' pre-existing Electronic Medical Record system, and facilitates the collection of patient-specific risk and outcomes data to assist with outcomes research.

The application stores guideline information within a database that has been structured so that patient-specific risk assessment and clinical management recommendations can be returned in response to inputs of defined and relevant disease-specific variables.

The outputs from PREDICT™ are stored in a separate database for assessment of outcomes. This process requires linkages to data from other sources, e.g. National Datasets, hospital records etc, using a unique identifier.

The PREDICT™ platform comprises a number of integrated components which together provide the enterprise-level capability sought by customers:

  • Tools for knowledge management; scenario creation and content updating
  • Tools for knowledge delivery; the powerful PREDICT engine
  • Tools for quality assurance; knowledge integrity
  • The system is highly adaptable and can be applied in any situation that can benefit from decision-support.

PREDICT™ provides tools for the management, coordination and delivery of a number of streams of information critical to an effective care planning process:

  • Clinical management recommendations (practitioner focused best-practice management advice)
  • Clinical management tasks and actions
  • Patient information

By complementing and integrating with existing systems and co-ordinating varied knowledge sources, e.g. guidelines, tasks, patient information etc into a single system that delivers patient-specific advice at the point of care, PREDICT™ has been designed to make patient management efficient and sustainable.

The technology has already received a New Zealand process patent (PCT/NZ01/00016, 6th February 2001) with patents pending in other key markets including the US.
