Why these Shocking Statistics?
In a couple of words ... “information overload”. Healthcare providers are drowning in information!
To tackle this significant issue, a new generation of tools and technical support is required to help providers work smarter and address the following problems:
- It’s not that doctors don’t want to want to deliver the best care, it’s just that they can’t always remember or are not aware of the proper care.
- The body of clinical knowledge doubles every 19 years.
- The problem is accelerating with rapid advances in research.
- Most doctors would like to apply new medicines and technologies to their practice if evidence is available.
Enigma's Solution Addresses these Challenges
The solution is to provide support to medical practitioners, right at the time they are treating patients, by linking the best-known clinical management to a patient’s problem.
Enigma has a solution that is available for implementation across the US health system and can be fully integrated with existing Clinical Information Systems.
In response to customer demand in the United States, Enigma has three priority areas of clinical focus:
- Chronic disease management (Predict eCVD-D [heart disease and diabetes] leading to a wider range of chronic disease products).
- Inpatient safety (Predict e-DVT [deep vein thrombosis] leading to a wider range of inpatient products).
- Health Risk Assessment; chronic disease, lifestyle, womens' and mens' health.
PREDICT was introduced to a number of US health systems in 2004. Early collaborators that quickly recognized its inherent value include the Geisinger Health System, Palo Alto Medical Foundation, and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH),
Lots of People Do Decision Support!
Lots of companies say they do decision support. In fact, it has become the “buzz word” in clinical information systems.
However, few systems go beyond providing simple alerts and reminders about drug interactions or abnormal laboratory results. Important as these may be, they are only part of the overall picture of effective patient management and are insufficient in themselves to produce better clinical outcomes. Those that do provide a rules engine that accepts specific “if then else” rules to provide specific results based on specific input criteria. These rules are generally simplistic and time consuming to maintain. They do not support the complete diagnosis or condition.
Enigma’s solutions go further by promising a significant performance enhancement, which provides:
- A solution for the complete management of a disease or condition, including co-morbidities, rather than one part of it as the competitors do.
- Tools to enable efficient updates to its scenarios and content which enable immediate decision support based on the most current and complex medical information, and compatible with local, regional or health system practice.
- Skills and services to ensure effective implementation.
There is nothing available in the market that is even close to having Enigma’s capability, not even from the largest vendors.
Don’t Take it From Us, Listen to Our Customers
Enigma is already working with a number of high profile customers and has achieved integration of the PREDICT system with electronic medical records. This allows data to be fed directly from the patient’s medical record into the application and, in turn, to return a care plan for display within EPIC and trigger a tailored order set.
“The system [we are building] will require reflection of our locally-agreed best practice and integration with EPIC, [one of the premier electronic medical record solutions, adopted by 80 of the nation’s leading medical institutions]. We believe the Enigma has the systems and capabilities which will be of significant assistance in us realizing our goals.”
“We had considered undertaking our own development to address this need, however decided to form a collaborative relationship for product development in the field of clinical decision making and have now been working with Enigma for over 12 months. I believe they have the technology, skills and services which make them a compelling partner....”
